Intracytoplasmic Morphologically (IMSI) treatment

Within the assisted reproduction technology, there are many factors which affect the process of fertilization as well as the potential of the embryo developing. One of the major factors is the integrity of DNA within the spermatozoon. So as to minimize the contribution of the paternal aspect when the IVF fails, the selection of sperm is made based on nuclear and morphological aspects.  These have shown a kind of benefit where the IMSI (Intracytoplasmic Morphologically Selected Sperm Injection) is used.

This has resulted in an increase of the outcome of the clinical pregnancies. (Hazout et al 2006, Berkovits et al 2005, Bartoov el al 2003). The IMSI method applies spermatozoa selection based on a microscope which is of a very high resolution. This allows for enlargement, x 6000. One is therefore able to achieve a very fine head morphology visualization of the spermatozoa at hand. Pre-selection of spermatozoa before the ICSI procedure is applied is allowed by vacuolization. IMSI (Intracytoplasmic Morphologically Selected Sperm Injection)makes it possible for the best sperms to be actually selected and injected.
